If there is one thing we love about summer it’s that the city is FULL of farmers markets! Being a DC intern is a struggle for many reasons, one definitely being the hunt for cheap and affordable groceries. If you are living in one of the GW dorms you know how expensive Whole Foods can be. Trader Joes is great, but lacks in the fresh food aisle.
The great thing about farmers markets is that the food is fresh, cheap, and local! And farmers markets don’t just have fruits and vegetables, vendors sell baked goods, cheeses, salsa, hand crafted jewelry and much more!
Important note: the farmers market at Eastern Market is by far the biggest and most famous one in DC. Vendors sell everything from hot sauce to blueberry pancakes (a must try), jewelry to fresh vegetables. If you had to pick one farmers market to start with, we suggest this one!
